redicted wayyy back in the ‘60s by everyone favorite futuristic cartoon family, the Jetsons, pod living is no longer on the horizon but has now become a reality. The synonymous Apple moniker is accordingly employed in every “pod” as each suite has an iPod docking station and free Wifi for those traveling on business.
Each room has a built in heated “rain” shower feature (because no one like cold acid rain) and a 20” LCD TV for ultimate relaxation. The concierge has got the necessary hookups for passing the velvet rope of some of the city’s most exclusive clubs (that is if name dropping at the door doesn’t work) and is more than happy to facilitate any request to ensure pod living is the futuristic dream you always thought it would be.
The prices are extremely reasonable, with a double pod room (2 people max.) running $249, a bunkbed 2 person pod for $169, and a single pod room (1 person, shared bathroom) running $159. The other option for big families is to get the Townhouse Unit, which sleeps 4 people. You’d have to have small children (or be cheap students) to want to sleep here, since they only offer a queen bed and a pull out. There is a living room and private bathroom, all for the low price of $359. This is the perfect idea for families with small children, as they finally get a price break and can bunk up comfortably.
Other interesting offerings are The Veranda Pod, which offers rooms for that third wheel friend of yours. The room comes with a double and twin bed, which hotels rarely offer. The hotel itself seems to be promoting itself to students, which is a first. Students don’t get anything besides measly discounts once in a while, so as a student, it’s nice to see marketing aimed towards this demographic. The hotel itself is modern, chic, and totally Ikea. The décor is quite simple, but by no means lacking in style.
The Pod is an interesting contemporary hotel for the penny-pinching student or the gigantic family trying to save a buck. You’ll appreciate the originality of The Pod, while students will appreciate the cheap hot-spot to have a hotel room party. Just a suggestion. -S.B.
