oth the unbeatable price and cocktail scene of this renovated Parkdale hotel have made it a favourite of hip travelers and local drinkers alike. The Drake, after its $6 million facelift, has become the ultimate crash pad, worthy of anyone from a cerebral artiste, a Rosedale divorc? with freshly done nails, to your everyday hipster (climbing the stairs to his room from the bar far below).
The Drake is not your average hotel, however; it's a festive mix of dining room, lounge, and indie bar - all rolled into one amplified Dorothy Parker's Round Table package. But not as intimidating or as pricey as some of its boutique brethren. The hotel, it must be noted, is equipped with a hopping lounge, raw sushi bar, neighbourhood cafe, licensed rooftop patio, yoga studio and a restaurant. The 19 crash pads are small, however, but clean and very cool, with cable TV and a highly original Ikea-ish furniture layout.
